The agency said dozens of housing complexes in Karawang were in a neglected condition.

The Public Housing and Residential Areas Agency of Karawang Regency, West Java, recorded that as many as 65 housing complexes spread across a number of areas around Karawang are in a "neglected" condition because they have been abandoned by developers.

"Housing abandoned by developers before the handover of PSU (public infrastructure, facilities and utilities) has caused problems for the housing residents," said Karawang Deputy Regent Maslani, during the PSU Handover Socialization in Karawang, .

He said that among the impacts of housing being abandoned by developers before the handover of PSU to the Karawang Regency Government was the damaged condition of road infrastructure and neglected drainage.

Another impact, he said, is that public facilities in the housing complex are also neglected, and the status of PSU assets and ownership certificates are unclear.

According to records from the Karawang Public Housing and Residential Areas Service, currently there are 473 housing complexes standing in a number of areas around Karawang.

Of the 473 housing developments, 275 have submitted their PSU (Planning for Public Works) and 181 are still in the process. Furthermore, 65 housing developments are categorized as abandoned due to the abandonment of their developers.

"This cannot be allowed to continue, because residents living in residential areas have the right to a decent environment. So, when developers neglect their obligations, the government must step in," he said.
