The DFB hopes Barca will play Ter Stegen frequently for the 2026 World Cup.
German Football Association (DFB) sports director Rudi Voeller hopes Barcelona will play Marc-Andre ter Stegen more often to keep the goalkeeper in top condition for the 2026 World Cup.

"It doesn't matter whether he stays at Barcelona or goes somewhere else, ultimately he has to play. And then we'll all be happy for him if, after years as a world-class goalkeeper in Manuel Neuer's shadow, he gets the chance to be the starting goalkeeper at a World Cup," Voeller told Football Espana on Thursday.

Ter Stegen has been in the spotlight as the 33-year-old goalkeeper has lost his starting spot after suffering an injury and is facing competition from Joan Garcia.

Ter Stegen has only made one appearance for the Blaugrana this season, reducing his chances of appearing at the 2026 World Cup.

German coach Julian Nagelsmann has appointed Ter Stegen as the main goalkeeper after Manuel Neuer retired from the national team.
