The reason Zidane's son chose the Algerian national team over France
Luca Zidane, son of French football legend Zinedine Zidane, said his emotional closeness made him decide to play for the Algerian national team.

Despite representing France at youth level, the 27-year-old goalkeeper chose to follow in his family's footsteps and is now a key member of the Algerian national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

"When I think of Algeria, I think of my grandfather. Since I was little, Algerian culture has been very strong in our family," Luca Zidane told BeIN Sports France on Thursday (25/12).

Luca emphasized that family support, especially his grandfather, was an important factor in his decision.

"He supported me. He said, 'Be careful, this is your choice. I can give you advice, but the final decision is yours,'" Luca said.

"I spoke to him before I played for the national team, and he was very happy with this move. Every time I get a call from the national team, he always calls me and tells me I made the right decision and that he's proud of me."

Luca's decision to change his citizenship was somewhat surprising, considering he only took this step at the age of 27.
