Madrid had previously suffered three consecutive draws in La Liga, including a 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday (November 9), a 2-2 draw with Elche on Monday (November 24), and a 1-1 draw with Girona on Monday (December 1). These three consecutive draws have left Real Madrid stuck in second place in the La Liga standings this season.
"It was an important match. We wanted to break the pattern a bit, but we came in calm and well-prepared, and I think the team performed very well overall. We were very focused throughout the 90 minutes, barely giving away any chances," Alonso said, as quoted on Real Madrid's official website on Thursday.The Spanish tactician assessed that his squad played well in the match, especially in the first half. Alonso also described Madrid's performance as solid from start to finish.
"It was probably the most complete match we've ever played, in a stadium known for being tough (for visiting teams) and at a crucial moment. Now we have to keep going," he said.
