Former British world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been released from hospital after a traffic accident in Ogun State, Nigeria, which killed two of his close relatives.
The Lagos and Ogun State governments, in a joint statement posted on social media X on Wednesday, said Joshua has been declared clinically recovered and can continue the recovery process from home.
"Anthony Joshua was discharged from the hospital this afternoon. Although deeply saddened by the loss of two close friends, he was medically cleared to continue his recovery at home," the statement said.
The 36-year-old boxer suffered minor injuries when the vehicle he was riding in collided on Monday (December 29) local time. Two people with him, a close friend and a member of his team, died in the incident.
Several reports stated that the accident was allegedly triggered by a tire burst before Joshua's vehicle hit a truck that was stopped at the side of the road.
