China launches world's first factory to produce robot joints

Chinese company Eyou Robot Technology has launched the world's first factory to produce joints for humanoid robots, according to the South China Morning Post.

According to the newspaper, the new factory in Shanghai can produce up to 100,000 joints annually, and this production capacity can be tripled in the future. The company provided calculations indicating that the cost of the joints is approximately half the cost of a single robot.

The newspaper added that the company aims, through expanding production, to solidify its position in the market by the time humanoid robots are widely available for sale.

Chinese engineers reported in an article published in the journal Science Advances that they had developed a new type of limb for humanoid robots, which, in terms of its structural principles, resembles human leg bones.

However, Chinese scientists pointed out that hundreds of scientific and engineering teams around the world are currently working on developing more advanced humanoid robots.

The South China Morning Post reported late last year that China had begun integrating humanoid robots into production lines.
