China's Ministry of Commerce issued a statement on Thursday (January 8) regarding the investigation into Meta's acquisition of artificial intelligence platform Manus, noting that companies involved in overseas investment must comply with Chinese laws and regulations.
The Chinese government has consistently supported companies in conducting mutually beneficial transnational operations and international technological cooperation in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, He Yadong, a spokesman for the ministry, said at a press conference.
The spokesperson emphasized that companies involved in overseas investment, technology exports, cross-border data transfers, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and other activities must comply with Chinese laws and regulations and follow established legal procedures.
He further added that his ministry will collaborate with relevant departments to assess and investigate the Manus acquisition's compliance with Chinese laws and regulations governing export controls, technology imports and exports, and overseas investment.
