The Religious Court (PA) of Pamekasan Regency, East Java, noted that economic problems and online gambling cases were the dominant factors in divorce cases filed by married couples at the institution.
"This is in accordance with the divorce case data we handled during 2025," said the Head of the Pamekasan Religious Court, Muhammad Najmi Fajri, in Pamekasan, Madura Island, East Java, on Wednesday.
In his year-end statement held at the Pamekasan PA Media Center, Fajri explained that the economy and online gambling were not the main causes, but there were other causes such as interference from third parties and a lack of understanding between families.
"But of the divorce cases we handle, the dominant causes are economic and online gambling ," he said.
He further explained that during 2025, his office handled 1,714 divorce cases, consisting of 1,093 divorce lawsuits and 600 divorce cases.
A divorce suit is a lawsuit filed by the woman, while a divorce suit is a divorce suit filed by the man.
"These 1,714 divorce cases are part of the total 2,832 cases we handled at the Pamekasan Religious Court, with a resolution ratio of 97.03 percent," he explained.
Meanwhile, in an effort to bring legal services closer to the community, throughout 2025 the Pamekasan PA also held 15 outdoor hearings for a total of 273 cases.
The trial was held at the Waru KUA, Batumarmar KUA, Pasean KUA, Pasean District Courtroom, MWCNU Proppo, Pamekasan Regency MPP, Palengaan MWCNU, and the Darul Ulum Banyuanyar Institute (IDB) Pamekasan.
In addition, the Pamekasan Religious Court also provided a waiver of court fees (prodeo) for 31 cases during 2025 and in 2026, the number of trials outside the building is planned to increase to 20 times, with a target of 45 prodeo cases, in order to expand legal services for the community.
