Egypt: Ireland promises $49 million in aid for Gaza

The Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defense visited the Rafah border crossing on the Egyptian side.

On Tuesday, Helen McEntee was accompanied by Egyptian officials, including the regional governor of North Sinai, Khaled Megawer for an update on the current situation.

The delegation also visited the Egyptian Red Crescent warehouses in the town of El-Arish, where humanitarian aid crates are stored.

On this occasion, McEntee indicated that Ireland would allocate $49 million in humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

This crossing point is an essential route for aid delivery and medical evacuations to and from the Gaza Strip.

The majority of Palestinians have been living in makeshift tents since their homes were destroyed by Israeli strikes.

The Gaza Strip's more than 2 million residents are struggling to protect themselves from the cold, including rain and severe storms, as humanitarian aid is lacking. Israel bans highly necessary caravans in the middle of winter.

Humanitarian organizations say that the materials needed to build shelters are not reaching Gaza in sufficient quantities during the truce.
