G20: the UN advocates effective representation of developing countries

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged G20 leaders to use their influence to combat trade barriers. According to him, these obstacles systematically disadvantage developing countries.

Antonio Guterres added, however, that the UN Secretariat does not have the power to reform the UN Security Council or international financial institutions: One thing I can guarantee is that as part of the actions of the United Nations Secretariat, we will do everything possible to correct inequalities and injustices and to ensure effective representation of developing countries, but we do not we do not have the power to reform the Security Council, the IMF (International Monetary Fund) or the World Bank. ", he declared.

This is the first time that a G20 summit has taken place on the African continent. Several hosts will be conspicuous by their absence, this is notably the case of Donald Trump who boycotts the summit, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and even Javier Milei
