The Ministry of Communication and Digital has commended seven 15-year-old Indonesian students for their innovative creation of SoilPIN, a portable soil health monitoring device based on artificial intelligence (AI), which won a gold medal at the IPITEx 2026 event in Bangkok, Thailand.
The achievement at the Bangkok International Intellectual Property Invention event is seen as proof that young Indonesian talent is capable of producing digital solutions that meet the needs of the agricultural sector.
"This innovation demonstrates that young Indonesians are capable of identifying real-world problems and addressing them with technology. SoilPIN is an example of how digitalization can directly benefit farmers and the environment," said Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, Director General of Digital Ecosystems at the Ministry of Communication and Information, in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
SoilPIN helps farmers quickly identify soil conditions, directly on the land, and is based on a mobile application.
