A fine of 16,500 dollars (around Rp. 278 million) was imposed on the leaker identified as Alfredo Lopez.
The Central District Court of California ordered the fine after Lopez was sued for leaking a virtual character in Honkai: Star Rail, Castorice, on the Discord platform with 12,000 members.
"Their only evidence is three screenshots," Lopez wrote on the Discord platform, responding to legal action taken by game developer HoYoverse, as reported by gamesradar, Tuesday.
The case began when Lopez spread a pre-release stream of the character Castorice before the character officially debuted in 2025.
HoYoverse filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in the US District Court for the Central District of California, seeking maximum damages of $150,000 and attorney fees of $6,600. Throughout the legal proceedings, Lopez has not made any official comments and has not appeared at court.
Judge André Birotte Jr. in his ruling stated that Lopez had shown a clear disregard for due process.
