Apple is expected to adopt a 200-megapixel camera on its iPhone starting in 2028, or more precisely on the iPhone 21st generation, according to research from investment bank Morgan Stanley.
As reported by Apple Insider on Friday, in a note to investors, Morgan Stanley analysts said the move was aimed at diversifying the supply chain so that Apple would not be dependent on just one supplier.
Furthermore, the policy is also related to Apple's efforts to increase its share of iPhone component production in the United States. Samsung is potentially manufacturing 200-megapixel CMOS camera sensors for the iPhone at its facility in Austin, Texas.
Previous reports have also indicated that Apple plans to use a 200-megapixel camera in future iPhones, partly because Sony is considered unable to match Samsung's high-resolution sensor technology.
