Manchester United (MU) center-back Harry Maguire said that his team's coach Michael Carrick has restored the players' spirit and praised Matheus Cunha as a player who often makes a difference.
"When Michael (Carrick-ed) came in, he did a brilliant job for the team. He brought fresh energy and restored the team's spirit," said Maguire, as quoted on the MU website on Tuesday.
According to the 32-year-old footballer, Carrick is able to motivate the team to give their best and fight all out on the pitch.
This was evident in Carrick's first two matches since being appointed as Manchester United manager in January 2026, namely against Manchester City and Arsenal.
Maguire admitted that many believed United would suffer in both matches. However, in reality, United managed to win both. City were defeated 2-0, and Arsenal were defeated 3-2.
"Of course it was a tough match. But we managed to win. That's incredible," he said.
Besides Carrick, Maguire was also impressed with the performance of MU's Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha.
Maguire said Cunha, who came on as a substitute against City and Arsenal, played with all his heart and was able to make a difference when his feet touched the pitch.
