Medvedev opens 2026 season with victory in Brisbane

  Seven years after reaching the final at the Brisbane International, Daniil Medvedev marked his return to the ATP 250 event with a 6-2, 6-3 first-round victory over Marton Fucsovics on Monday.

Top seed Medvedev in Brisbane showed his versatility in an easy win against Fucsovics, controlling the tempo to secure victory in 70 minutes.

"I played well and I'm happy with my level of play," Medvedev was quoted as saying by ATP on Monday.

"I could have played better on my serve a few times, but I played well from the baseline. I'm happy with my first match of the year."

The ATP World No. 13 ended a two-year title drought in October in Almaty and will be looking to add to his 21 tour-level trophies this week.
