The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) stated that X, the platform that owns the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Grok, has declared its compliance with the regulations in force in Indonesia.
The Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Alexander Sabar, conveyed this after Party X approached the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy regarding the misuse of AI Grok to create images containing pornographic elements.
"They (X) have come, stated that they will comply with the existing regulations in Indonesia and that is how they are being implemented," said Alexander when met in Central Jakarta, Tuesday.
Furthermore, he explained that X had even carried out geoblocking or region-based blocking in Indonesia.
Alexander said there is a possibility of permanent blocking if the social media platform owned by billionaire Elon Musk does not comply with regulatory provisions.
He also reminded X of its obligation to open an office in Indonesia, considering that the platform does not yet have a representative in the country.
"We hope they can appoint a representative here," said Alexander.
