Morocco: heavy rains and floods in the northwest

Northwestern Morocco faces heavy rain and flooding in recent days. In the town of Ksar El Kébir, the most populous in the province of Larache, provincial authorities have activated the maximum alert level.

Major preventive measures have been undertaken to protect threatened residential areas, including temporary barriers installed around neighborhoods exposed to flooding.

The Royal Armed Forces have opened emergency camps to accommodate residents affected by the floods. Food, blankets and emergency aid were made available to evacuees. The population is called upon to be vigilant and cautious until weather conditions improve.

According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, showers, heavy rain and gusts of wind are expected to continue this Friday in several provinces of the Kingdom. The risk of rising water levels also remains serious.
