The Indonesian national team has been a finalist in the Southeast Asian football tournament six times, but the Garuda team has never won the title.
"I think the fact that Indonesia has never won this tournament actually presents a good opportunity for a new coach. The last thing you want is to be a coach who has reached the final six times and then have to win it again for the seventh time," Herdman said after attending the 2026 ASEAN Cup group draw at MNC Studio.
"So, to do it for the first time and make history with the fans and the players, that's the mindset we want to bring to this tournament."
