Snapchat creator Snap Inc. has spun off its augmented reality (AR) glasses business into a separate entity called Specs Inc., which remains under the company's full ownership.
this move is said to make it easier for Snap to find external investors and form partnerships for the development of wearable devices , while also building Specs as a more independent brand.
Previously, in mid-2025, Snap was reportedly looking to raise additional funding to strengthen its competitiveness in the AR glasses market, especially against Meta, which has greater financial resources.
In its announcement, Snap said the launch of Specs comes at a pivotal moment when artificial intelligence is changing the way people use computers.
The operating system on these glasses is claimed to be able to help users complete tasks faster based on what the device sees and the user's habits.
