Apple is reportedly planning to adopt the latest generation of LTPO+ OLED panels on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, according to information from supply chain sources quoted by South Korean media, ETNews. As reported by GSM Arena on Tuesday, LTPO+ technology is said to offer better power efficiency than the LTPO panels used in previous generations, resulting in longer battery life. Additionally, this panel allows Apple to move the Face ID infrared scanner below the display.
Several sources familiar with the development also suspect that Apple is preparing an under-display front camera, with claims that image quality will be maintained.
The use of LTPO+ panels has also impacted Apple's supply chain. ETNews reports that Chinese display manufacturer BOE will likely no longer supply panels for the Pro models, as currently only Samsung Display and LG Display are capable of producing LTPO+ OLEDs. However, BOE still has the potential to supply non-Pro iPhone variants.
In addition to the iPhone, the report also states that Apple plans to implement LTPO+ panels on the redesigned MacBook M6 Pro.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September.
