The UK Gambling Commission (UKG) has expressed concerns about Meta Platforms, which it considers less than firm in dealing with illegal gambling site advertisements on its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
As reported by Engadget on Tuesday, at a conference in Barcelona, UK Gambling Commission Executive Director Tim Miller criticized Meta's approach to online gambling advertising.
He assessed that the company's claim that it would only remove illegal advertisements after receiving a report did not reflect the actual situation.
"Companies like Meta will say they have zero tolerance for ads on illegal sites and will remove them if notified. However, that approach makes it seem like they were unaware of the ads' existence before the report. That's simply not true," Tim said.
Meta's internal policy requires gambling sites to be licensed in the regions where their ads appear. However, the UK Gambling Commission revealed that it still finds ads from operators not registered with GamStop.
