The Ministry of Communication and Digital is preparing a Ministerial Regulation that will require content created by generative artificial intelligence (AI) to include labels.
Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, Director General of Digital Ecosystems at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology, explained that the regulation will complement two Presidential Regulations (Perpres) regarding AI adoption in Indonesia that will be issued by the government.
"Now, there's one additional regulation besides this Presidential Decree, namely a draft ministerial regulation for the use of AI in electronic system providers, namely a regulation where the generative AI that appears must be watermarked (labeled)," said Edwin in a working meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex.
Under this regulation, AI platforms must include a special label on AI-generated content uploaded to social media and other digital platforms. Violations of this regulation can result in the content being taken down .
Meanwhile, sanctions for AI-generated content that violates statutory regulations are regulated in the Electronic Information and Transactions Law.
Edwin explained that the Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology is currently preparing two draft Presidential Regulations regarding the adoption and utilization of AI, namely the National AI Roadmap and the ethics of AI utilization.
He explained that there are three main points in the National AI Roadmap: determining priority sectors to be encouraged to adopt AI. There are 10 listed sectors, including food security, housing, transportation, logistics, the creative economy, finance, and several others.
