  German national team striker Timo Werner has officially joined Major League Soccer (MLS) club San Jose Earthquakes from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, the Earthquakes announced on Thursday (29/1) local time.

"Timo Werner's time with RB Leipzig has come to an end after 113 goals in 216 competitive appearances. He will join the (MLS) San Jose Earthquakes," the club said in a statement on their official website.

San Jose Earthquakes sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said he was enthusiastic about Werner's arrival.

Werner has a stellar track record at both club and international level. Since his professional debut with VfB Stuttgart in 2013, he has recorded 153 goals and 86 assists in 449 appearances.

In addition to playing in the Bundesliga, Werner also played for Premier League clubs Chelsea (2020-2022) and Tottenham Hotspur (2024-2025).

At international level, Werner has scored 24 goals in 57 appearances for the German national team. He appeared at the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020, and has won seven trophies, including the 2021 Champions League and the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup.

Werner admits his move to the United States was a big decision, but he is optimistic about achieving success with the Earthquakes.

"Going to America is always a big decision, but all the ingredients for success are there here. The stadium and facilities are fantastic," said Werner.
