Olympique Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly under immense pressure and is facing the threat of being fired.
Citing a report from RMC Sport on Friday, the Italian coach's position is now hanging in the balance following Marseille's elimination from the 2025/26 Champions League competition.
A heavy 0-3 defeat to Club Brugge last Wednesday was a heavy blow for Marseille and ended their European campaign in disappointing fashion.
The result further intensified the spotlight on De Zerbi's performance, which was deemed to have failed to lead Les Phoceens to compete competitively in the Champions League.
Marseille actually entered their final league match with a strong chance of qualifying for the play-offs. However, a disastrous performance against the Belgian club saw them squander an opportunity that was entirely in their own hands.
There had been hope that Marseille could still progress, but Benfica's late goal against Real Madrid changed everything. The result lifted the Portuguese side to 24th place and knocked Marseille out of the playoff spot.
This failure marks a dismal record for Marseille. They became the first French club to be eliminated at this stage since the new Champions League format was introduced.
Ironically, the domestic situation is actually quite positive. Marseille currently sits third in Ligue 1 and is on track to return to the Champions League next season.
However, the club's top brass are reportedly considering a change of coach following the club's major disappointment in European competition.
If Marseille decides to part ways with De Zerbi, the 46-year-old coach is predicted to not be out of work for long.
His name was previously linked with a number of top European clubs such as Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
Interestingly, three of those four clubs are likely to be looking for a new manager next summer, making De Zerbi a strong candidate if he does become available.
