Indonesian national futsal team coach Hector Souto said the Garuda team is on the right track after winning the 2024 AFF Cup, winning the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games, and most recently securing a place in the 2026 Asian Futsal Cup quarterfinals.
Indonesia secured its place in the quarter-finals after securing its second win in Group A against Kyrgyzstan with a score of 5-3 at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, Thursday.
"I think we're on the right track, but this is just the beginning of the process. Our players, I think, are doing something extraordinary. They're truly extraordinary. They're performing very, very well, given the conditions they had when they were young and also the conditions they're facing now," Souto said at the mixed zone of the Indonesia Arena.
The Spanish coach added that, although he agreed that Indonesian futsal was on the right track, he still needed many changes overall.
In the context of competition at the Asian level, if we refer to Indonesia's achievements in the Asian Futsal Cup, their best progress was only reaching the quarter-finals four years ago in Kuwait, before the Garuda team reached the same stage again this year.
