Treatment options for patients with advanced liver disease
Consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist C. Rinaldi A. Lesmana explained treatment options for patients with advanced liver disease, including transplantation.

"Usually, what will be done is an evaluation of the patient's condition, including the function of their organs. How do we assess a person based on the function of these organs and how far we can improve the function of these organs," said Dr. dr. C. Rinaldi A. Lesmana KGEH, FCAP, FACG, FINASIM during a discussion on liver disease at Medistra Hospital, Jakarta, Thursday.

"This means how we can lower the stage of the disease before surgery or transplantation is performed, so that the results achieved from the transplant or surgery will be much better," he added.

While waiting for a liver donor, he explained, Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures for stent placement can be performed on patients.

Patients with advanced chronic liver disease or liver cancer ( Hepatocellular Carcinoma / HCC) who have not responded to curative or active treatment such as surgery or transplantation, according to him, can be given the best supportive care.
