Trump warns Iran about nuclear, hints at military action
United States President Donald Trump warned Iran against resuming its nuclear program, stressing that violating the ban could trigger military action.

Trump said Washington would confirm Tehran's current position on its nuclear activities and would not tolerate any attempt to develop nuclear weapons.

"That's a tough place. That's a place we hit very hard (last June)… to end the nuclear program," Trump said in an interview with CNBC on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

He said the attack was carried out with a B-2 stealth bomber.

Trump added that Iran would have had nuclear weapons if the attack had not been carried out.

"They would have had nuclear weapons a long time ago, maybe even a month after we attacked, if we hadn't hit them. And we hit them hard, with the B-2," he said.

He said the US government would now monitor Tehran's next steps.

"We'll find out where they stand now and what they're going to do about nuclear. They must not do nuclear. One thing I've always emphasized: they must not do nuclear," he said.

Trump also claimed Iran halted plans to execute protesters after he issued a military warning last week.

“They were going to hang 837 people on Thursday,” Trump said. “I told them, ‘You can’t do that.’”

A wave of protests erupted in Iran on December 28 amid worsening economic conditions, particularly the plummeting value of the national currency and soaring inflation.
