Uganda: Museveni supporters celebrate 7th presidential term

Thousands of supporters dressed in yellow celebrated President Yoweri Museveni's victory in Kampala, singing and waving flags to mark his re-election.

These rallies follow by a few hours the partial restoration of internet services, which had been suspended for four days by the government, to limit the spread of disinformation during the elections.

Jane Atuku, a 26-year-old aid worker, explained her support for the president by highlighting her educational journey: I was able to access education and benefited from the free universal education system, from primary school to 'at university. "For her, President Museveni helped open up opportunities for young Ugandans.

Annet Muigyaala, a 38-year-old chef, highlighted the stability established by the president: President Museveni has been a competent leader for thirty-five years. Since I was born, I have never witnessed wars in Uganda. He brought peace, built housing for all, and allowed us to prosper. All women now have the opportunity to pursue a professional activity. "

Despite these celebrations, small demonstrations were dispersed by the police in certain neighborhoods, according to AFP journalists. The elections were marked by low turnout and a large deployment of security forces, with the government seeking to prevent incidents similar to those seen recently in the region.

George Nyombi Thembo, executive director of the Uganda Communications Commission, said restrictions on social media remain temporary to protect public order and limit the risks of disinformation and violence.
