UN: Volker Turk warns of violence against Sudanese women

UN human rights chief and displaced people from Al-Afad camp in Sudan's northern state. Opportunity for Volker Türk to collect the stories given by women about the high price they have been paying since the rapid support forces and the army dug up the hatchet.

‘’ I met nine women and girls, all victims of sexual violence, who told me horrible stories. They were... I have never seen people so traumatized. They told me about gang rapes in El-Fasher, their attempted escape, how men were taken and killed in front of them, their brothers, their sons.’’, in Volker Türk.

The war has already displaced more than 13 million people, including 8.6 million inside the country according to the UN. Sudan is in the grip of a humanitarian emergency of appalling magnitude, the United Nations also points out.
