PSSI Referee Committee Chairman Yoshimi Ogawa emphasized that the committee he leads has no right to punish players or recommend punishments for players deemed to have committed inappropriate actions.
One example is the actions of Persija Jakarta player Ryo Matsumura. The Japanese player was suspended for four matches and fined Rp 50 million by the PSSI Disciplinary Committee for an inappropriate gesture during the 2025/2026 BRI Super League match against Semen Padang on December 22, 2025.
Ryo was also known to have said inappropriate words towards referee Steven Yubel Poli in the players' tunnel after the match.
"Actually, our referees are tasked with providing honest reports. The Referees Committee, we, have no right to be involved in punishing players," Ogawa said when met at the GBK Arena
"The Disciplinary Committee makes the decision on how many match suspensions a player receives. We are responsible for requesting an honest, factual report," he continued.
Ryo has also begun serving his suspension. He will not play when Persija plays against Bhayangkara FC in the postponed BRI Super League match on December 29, 2025.
The former Persis Solo player was also absent from Persija's match against Persijap Jepara on January 3, as well as Persib Bandung on January 11. He only has one more match left to serve, namely when the Kemayoran Tigers host Madura United on Friday (21/1).
