The World Government Summit opened this Tuesday in Dubai under the theme "Shaping the Governments of the Future", bringing together heads of state, ministers, experts and entrepreneurs around the issue of new governance models.
Artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and the ability of states to anticipate tomorrow's challenges were at the heart of this opening day. The initial discussions set the tone for a forward-looking summit, and several African countries made their voices heard.
“We are seeking partnerships in our digital transformation journey. We are just beginning this journey,” Nthati Moorosi, Lesotho’s Minister of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation, told Africanews. “We want to digitize Lesotho’s economy, which is why we are looking for partners and collaborators. And this is a tremendous opportunity,” she added.
Present at this summit, Senegal for its part delivered a clear message: shaping the governments of tomorrow depends first and foremost on the development of human capital and in particular on the training of young people.
"Today, Senegal has a transformation agenda, Senegal 2050, one of whose axes is human capital. Investing in young people, training them, educating them, guiding them and enabling them to access employment is a challenge," said Dr. Birome Holo Ba, Director General of the Operational Bureau for Coordination and Monitoring of Projects and Programs within the office of the Senegalese Prime Minister.
By hosting representatives from 150 governments, the United Arab Emirates placed this edition of the summit under the banner of dialogue and cooperation.
These discussions are set to continue until February 5th in order to identify common responses to global challenges.
