Doctors say thousands of Kawasaki cases remain undiagnosed
Professor of Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. dr. Najib Advani, Sp.A, Subsp.Kardio(K), M.Med(Paed) said that the number of cases of Kawasaki disease in children in Indonesia is estimated to reach thousands per year, most of which have not been diagnosed.

According to Najib, who is also a member of the Cardiology Coordination Unit of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI), there is currently no national registration data for Kawasaki cases. Estimates of the number of cases are still based on clinical observations and patient management.

"How about Indonesia? How many cases of Kawasaki? There's no honest data," Najib said in an online seminar on Kawasaki in Children, attended.

He estimates that the incidence of new Kawasaki disease cases in Indonesia could reach 3,000 to 4,000 per year. However, the number of patients diagnosed and treated is far lower.
