Sports health specialist Dr. Andhika Raspati, Sp.KO, stated that weightlifting for children does not cause growth related to height to be shorter.
According to him, there are still many, especially parents, who are worried about giving weight training to their children because they are afraid that it will hinder their growth and make them short.
"In my observation, many people feel and hold the stigma that weight training will make children short. They see weightlifters or weightlifters as short, so they immediately assume that. But that's not the case," said Dr. Andhika, during a health discussion.
In fact, Andhika said, weightlifters with shorter statures are considered more efficient because the lifting distance from the floor to the top is shorter.
This is what makes coaches tend to recruit short athletes, not because weight training makes the body short.
