Google will expand file sharing support with Apple devices

After bringing two-way support for Apple's AirDrop function to the Pixel 10 series of phones last year, Google plans to expand support for the file-sharing feature with Apple devices to more Android devices by 2026.

In a press conference at Google's Taipei office, Android VP of Engineering Eric Kay confirmed that AirDrop interoperability will be expanded in 2026.

"We spent a lot of time and energy making sure that we could build something that was compatible not only with the iPhone, but also the iPad and the MacBook," he was quoted as saying in an Engadget broadcast.

"Now that we've proven it, we're working with partners to expand it across the ecosystem," he said.

Currently, Pixel 10 users can send and receive files or photos between Apple and Android devices using the Quick Share feature.

In order for an Android phone to receive files from an iPhone, users must set Quick Share visibility to " everyone for 10 minutes " and ensure the device is in " receive " mode.

A similar scenario applies when sharing from Android to Apple devices, where the iPhone, iPad, or Mac must be set to " anyone for 10 minutes " AirDrop visibility , which then allows the Android device with Quick Share to send files.
