Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan announced the company's plans at the Cisco AI Summit on Tuesday (February 3) to begin producing graphics processing units ( GPUs ), a new type of chip popularized by rival Nvidia.
Intel has been known to focus on central processing units ( CPUs ).
GPU is a special type of processor needed for gaming and heavy computing tasks such as training artificial intelligence ( AI ) models.
Lip-Bu Tan said that the company plans to develop its strategy in producing GPUs based on customer demand and needs.
