Lagos celebrates Valentine's Day differently

In Lagos, the Nigerian megacity where hustle and bustle reigns supreme, love can easily get lost in the daily whirlwind. Yet, every February 14th, the city of over 20 million inhabitants is adorned with hearts and roses, celebrating love in all its forms.

But for Bianca "Clayrocksu" Okorocha, a local musician, affection shouldn't be limited to just one day. She traded the traditional stages for the bustling streets, offering impromptu serenades and roses to randomly selected passersby.

The reactions are always the same: first surprise, then a radiant smile that lights up faces. "We simply wanted to bring a little magic and sweetness to people, especially in a world where bad news often dominates ," she told the Associated Press. "Valentine's Day isn't just about romantic gestures between couples. It's first and foremost a day to share love with everyone around us."

Barbara Lulu, caught off guard while going about her business, was one of the lucky winners. "I absolutely didn't expect it... All I can say is: Yay!" she exclaimed, still emotional.

With his accomplice distributing the roses, Clayrocksu makes no distinction: men and women alike are invited to receive this unexpected gesture. Olufemi Oyeyemi, one of the recipients, was deeply moved: "I feel special, blessed… Thank you for this love you share."
