Ultra marathon runner Matheos Berhitu from Ambon City, Maluku, will take part in the 1,350-kilometer ultra marathon race in Jordan, which will take place from June 5 to July 7.
Matheos Berhitu in Ambon, Wednesday, said he is currently focusing on undergoing an intensive training program to prepare for the prestigious event, which is recorded in the Guinness World Records.
"I ask for prayers and support from all Indonesians, especially those in Ambon City, so that I can compete well and complete this competition to the best of my ability," he said.
He explained that the ultramarathon was originally scheduled for 2024, but had to be postponed due to extreme weather conditions. The event was then rescheduled and will only be held again in mid-2026.
He ensured that he was physically and mentally ready to compete and hoped to deliver the best results to bring honor to Indonesia, especially Maluku Province and Ambon City, on the international stage.
Ultramarathons in Jordan are known for their high risk and challenges for runners. The race route traverses desert terrain with extreme terrain, temperatures that can reach over 40 degrees Celsius during the day, and significant temperature differences at night.
In addition, strong winds, minimal vegetation, and long routes passing through rocky and sandy terrain require very strict physical endurance, energy strategies, and hydration management.
