Norwegian skier Johannes Hosflot Klaebo made history by equaling the all-time Winter Olympics record of eight gold medals after winning the men's 10km interval preliminary cross-country skiing event at Milano Cortina 2026 on Friday.
Dubbed "almost unbeatable in sprinting" by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store this week, those words proved true with a time of 20:36.2, the Olympic website said on Friday.
That time earned Klaebo his third gold medal at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, beating France's Mathis Desloges with a time of 20:41.1 and Norway's Einar Hedegart with 20:50.2.
Klaebo joins three compatriots after adding to his collection of three gold medals from PyeongChang 2018 and two at Beijing 2022.
Only fellow Norwegians Bjorn Daehlie, Marit Bjorgen and Ole Einar Bjorndalen have won eight gold medals in their Winter Olympic careers.
