Nuclear: High-level negotiations planned between Iran and the US

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that nuclear negotiations between his country and the United States would take place this week in Oman.

Mr. Araghchi announced on Wednesday evening that the negotiations were scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. in Muscat (6 a.m. GMT), after reports had suggested that the expected meeting was in jeopardy due to disagreements over its format and venue.

"I am grateful to our Omani brothers for taking all the necessary measures," the foreign minister wrote on social media.

On Tuesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian wrote on social media that he had instructed his country's foreign minister to "conduct fair and equitable negotiations."

Washington has confirmed that the United States will participate in high-level talks with Iran in Oman rather than in Turkey as originally planned, according to a White House official quoted by the Associated Press.

Mediators from Qatar, Turkey and Egypt presented Iran and the United States with a framework of key principles to be discussed during talks, including Iran's commitment to significantly limit its uranium enrichment, two sources close to the negotiations told Al Jazeera.

Key points of the proposed framework also include restrictions on the use of ballistic missiles and the arming of Iran's allies in the region, according to these sources, among them a senior diplomat who asked to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the negotiations.
