Palace: BPJS arrears cancellation does not need to wait for Presidential Decree
Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi stated that discussions regarding the plan to write off BPJS Kesehatan participant contribution arrears do not have to wait for the issuance of a presidential regulation (perpres) to implement corrective measures.

"I don't think there's any need to wait for the presidential decree," said State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday, responding to progress on the plan to eliminate BPJS Kesehatan participant arrears, which has been in effect since the end of 2025.

He said that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and related ministries are continuing to refine solutions for handling BPJS Kesehatan participant arrears through cross-sector coordination.

According to Prasetyo, the discourse was discussed in a joint meeting with the Indonesian House of Representatives on Monday morning and resulted in a number of important agreements.

"It was just discussed this morning. Please wait as soon as possible," he said.

Prasetyo explained that the policy could be implemented immediately through coordination between BPJS Kesehatan, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

He said the root of the arrears problem was related to the process of recording and verifying data on contribution assistance recipients to ensure that subsidies were properly targeted.

During the data updating process, Prasetyo said, a number of participants from the middle to upper economic groups, namely deciles 6 to 10, were found who should not be included in the category of recipients of contribution assistance, but were still recorded as recipients.

"In that process, we found that in deciles 6 to 10, there were approximately 15,000 or so who should not have been included in the category of recipients of the contribution assistance, but were still included," he said.
