The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia, who is also the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Megawati Soekarnoputri, received an honorary doctorate from Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Megawati was moved to tears as she delivered a speech on leadership and women's empowerment in government. She began her speech by greeting the rector and academic senate in attendance.
"We are gathered at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, a university that stands as a symbol of women's progress in education, science, and community service," Megawati said in a written statement received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday.
Megawati then expressed her deep respect and gratitude for the award of an honorary doctorate from Princess Naurah University.
This title is the eleventh honorary doctorate and three honorary professorships received by Megawati.
Megawati interpreted this honorary title not as a personal achievement, but as recognition of the values of women's struggle.
Megawati was moved to tears as she delivered her speech at the event. "Seeing so many intelligent women here, I feel so proud," she said, tears streaming down her face.
The ceremony for the honorary doctorates began with remarks from Fawziyah bint Suliman Al Amro, Acting Rector of Princess Naurah University, at the Princess Naurah University campus in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Fawziyah expressed her honor to welcome Megawati to her campus.
