Russian boxer Elnur Samedov stopped John Lenon Gutierrez via technical knockout (TKO) to win the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight (59 kg) title at the Traktor Ice Arena, Chelyabinsk, Russia.
"Samedov stopped Gutierrez in the 11th round, in a grueling fight characterized by high tempo, tenacity and constant physical punishment," the WBA reported on its official website, which was monitored .
Fighting in front of his home crowd, Samedov appeared confident from the start. The home crowd's support provided the Russian boxer with added energy to immediately take the initiative and dictate the course of the bout.
From the opening bell, Samedov immediately imposed a rhythm to pressure Gutierrez. He cut off the ring movement with precision, closing off Gutierrez's escape routes, and forcing the taller Colombian to close range. This strategy made it difficult for Gutierrez to find space to develop his best game.
Gutierrez tried to maintain his distance with his reach advantage, relying on his jab and footwork to dampen his opponent's aggression.
However, Samedov's relentless pressure began to wear away at his endurance in the middle rounds, as the intensity of his attacks increased.
