South Africa: Opening of the 32nd African Mining Indaba

Gathered in Cape Town under the theme "Stronger Together", the 2026 edition of the African Mining Indaba emphasizes cooperation and the defense of African interests in the face of global geopolitical and economic challenges.

The event brings together, for four days, mining professionals, investors and public officials to discuss the prospects for developing African mineral resources.

In his opening speech, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema called on African countries to develop their own economic programs and seek support from the International Monetary Fund, rather than depending on external initiatives.

South African Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Gwede Mantashe, for his part, stressed the need for African countries to defend their interests in international trade, in a context of growing geopolitical tensions around raw materials.

Established in 1994, the African Mining Indaba is holding its 32nd edition this year at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. More than 10,500 participants, including investors, business leaders, and government representatives, are expected.
