Spurs include Tel and Gallagher in Champions League squad

Tottenham Hotspur have included Mathys Tel, Conor Gallagher and Radu Dragusin in their Champions League squad for the knockout stages, but Yves Bissouma, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison are still missing.

Two players who have recently suffered injuries, Ben Davies and Rodrigo Bentancur, have also been excluded from the list, as quoted from the official Spurs website, Friday.

Gallagher, a recruit from Atletico Madrid, is an association-trained player and effectively replaces Brennan Johnson in the knockout stage squad. Johnson joined Crystal Palace last month for a fee approaching £35 million.

Tel also earned a place after being left out of Tottenham's initial squad for the league stage in September, along with Bissouma, Dragusin, Kulusevski and Maddison.

Tel was brought in as a replacement for the injured Dominic Solanke in December, before being dropped again last month for the final two games after the England striker recovered.

Bentancur and Davies are expected to miss most of the rest of the season with hamstring and ankle injuries.

Both Maddison and Kulusevski have not featured this season due to serious knee injuries, while Dragusin is now back to fitness after starting the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

UEFA regulations state that each team can register up to 25 players for their competitions. Of that number, eight must be "homegrown players," which fall into two categories.

Club-trained players must be registered with the club for at least three seasons between the ages of 15 and 21, while association-trained players must be registered with a club in the same association (country) for at least three seasons in the same age range.

Tottenham only have one club-developed player in their European squad, third-choice goalkeeper Brandon Austin, despite being required to register four. As a result, they have three slots available and can only field a limited 22-man squad for the knockout stage.

Tottenham finished fourth in the Champions League preliminary round and will be the favorites to advance to the last 16.

They will face one of Juventus, Galatasaray, Club Brugge or Atletico Madrid in a two-legged tie, with the decider being held in North London.
