Cardiologist Dr. Natalia Solovyova stated that excessive sweating without a clear cause may not just be a feeling of discomfort, but may indicate the presence of serious cardiovascular diseases.
She said the most alarming scenario is the appearance of cold, clammy sweats, chills, and cold skin , a natural nervous system response to severe stress on the body . This condition is often accompanied by a squeezing or burning pain behind the breastbone, radiating to the shoulder blade or lower jaw, as well as nausea and dizziness , and may indicate a myocardial infarction (heart attack ). She added that people with diabetes or high cholesterol should call emergency services immediately if these symptoms appear, as any delay could be very dangerous .
In patients with ischemic heart disease , excessive sweating accompanied by chest pain can indicate unstable angina , a pre-myocardial infarction stage requiring immediate hospitalization . Chronic sweating, especially at night, along with increasing weakness and fatigue , can also indicate myocarditis or endocarditis , which often develop after illnesses such as tonsillitis, pneumonia, or influenza .
Solovyova emphasized that sweating is rarely the only symptom of heart problems , but stressed that if it appears suddenly and acutely, emergency medical help should be sought immediately . If sweating is persistent and regular without severe pain, but accompanied by risk factors or a recent infection , a thorough medical examination is recommended .
