The first-generation Nintendo Switch has become the best-selling gaming device in Nintendo's history with total sales reaching 155.37 million units as of December 31, 2025, surpassing the Nintendo DS which previously held the record with 154.02 million units.
the increase in sales occurred after a surge in sales during the year-end holiday period, where Nintendo also managed to sell 7.01 million units of the Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the total sales of the latest generation console to 17.37 million units throughout the third quarter of the current fiscal year.
Despite its position being displaced by the Switch 2, the first-generation Nintendo Switch still recorded solid sales, namely around 1.36 million units in the third quarter of fiscal 2026 due to its relatively more affordable price.
