  Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid reminded the press not to sacrifice public trust for the sake of speed, algorithms, or technological efficiency amid the rapid flow of digital content, increasing disinformation, and artificial intelligence (AI).

According to Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya, amidst the complexity of new challenges, the role of the press is even more crucial as a guardian of information integrity and a healthy public space.

"In the wave of digital transformation and AI, the presence of a credible and independent press is not an option, but a basic democratic necessity," said Meutya Hafid, in an official statement received.

This was conveyed by Meutya at the National Mass Media Convention with the theme "Press, AI and Digital Transformation: Building an Information Ecosystem for the Public Interest" as part of a series of activities to commemorate National Press Day (HPN) 2026 in Serang, Banten, Sunday (8/2).

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid emphasized that strategic collaboration between the government, the press ecosystem, and digital platforms is key to addressing the challenges of the digital transformation era, including disinformation and the impact of AI.
