Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has confirmed he will not strip Cristian Romero of his captaincy, despite the defender receiving a red card during Spurs' defeat by Manchester United.
Frank still has full confidence in the Argentine player even though he has to serve a long suspension.
"He has no regrets about making him captain, and he also regrets the incident. He apologized to his teammates," Frank said, as reported by The Guardian on Sunday.
In the match at Old Trafford on Saturday, Romero was given a straight red card in the first half for a hard tackle on Casemiro.
Playing with 10 men from the start of the match, Tottenham lost 0-2 after goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes.
The red card put Romero in the spotlight even more, given that the Spurs squad was crippled by a storm of injuries.
The incident also made Tottenham's back line even more fragile.
