Vinicius Junior's single goal gave Real Madrid a 1-0 victory over Benfica in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 playoff at the Da Luz Stadium, Lisbon, Wednesday morning WIB.
Vinicius Junior scored Madrid's winning goal in the 50th minute, UEFA noted.
Madrid only need a draw in the second leg to qualify for the last 16, while Benfica must win by at least two goals.
The second leg will be held at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Madrid, on Wednesday next week.
Madrid immediately attacked by threatening their opponents through Kylian Mbappe's shot which was thwarted by Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin.
Benfica turned the game around with a weak header from Tomas Araujo, which was easily blocked by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Madrid created another comeback from Arda Guler's long-range shot which was thwarted by Trubin with a brilliant save.
