Former England national team left-back Ashley Cole was appointed as the new coach of Italian second-tier football club.
In a statement on their official website, Cesena contracted Cole as their coach until June this year.
Cole has previously served as an assistant coach at several clubs since retiring as a professional footballer in 2019. He has been an assistant coach at Chelsea, Everton, Birmingham City and the England national team.
In September 2024, he left Birmingham to become a manager at The Football Association. Cole was entrusted with assisting Lee Carsley during his probationary period as England national team manager.
The appointment as coach at Cesena marks Cole's first time as a head coach at senior level.
Cesena, based in eastern Italy, were promoted from Serie C after the 2023/2024 season and currently sit eighth in Serie B after 30 matches played this season.
The club was previously without a head coach after sacking Michele Mignani.
During his playing career, Cole made 384 Premier League appearances as a left-back for Arsenal and Chelsea. He won two Premier League titles with Arsenal before moving to Chelsea, where he added one Champions League title and one Premier League title to his trophy haul.
Cole also made 107 appearances for England, the second-highest total for a defender after Bobby Moore, who made 108 appearances.
